Many people who enjoy camping take advantage of the fact that a percolator pot enables them to make coffee in the middle of the nature, without any need of electricity, unlike some other types of coffee makers.

The way that percolator coffee makers brew coffee is based on high temperatures and water pressure. A percolator coffee maker will work at higher temperatures than other regular coffee makers. The percolator mainly consists of a pot, a filter and a cover. The water is poured into the pot, and then the filter is put on top of the water, with the coffee in it. This way, the coffee stays separate from the water. The cover is then closed. The water is heated and begins to boil, so the water reaches up to the coffee, starting to brew it. Once the water is close to the boiling temperature, and starting to go through the ground coffee, you will start hearing the characteristic spurting sound. Once the entire liquid is boiling, the heat needs to be decreased to avoid boiling the coffee, which can lead to bitter tasting coffee.
