Kenya Coffee Beans

Kenya Coffee Beans are considered some of the finest coffee beans in the world, along with Jamaica's Blue Mountain and Hawaii's Kona region. Every regional coffee has a taste that makes it distinct from all the others, and Kenya coffee beans are no exception. Unlike the mild Blue Mountain coffee, it has a sharp or "bright" taste to it. Depending on the specific part of Kenya, the coffee may also taste lightly of fruit or even caramel.

Coffee bean quality is measured by various grades, with each country having it's own system. In Kenya, there are 9 size grades, and 10 classes for quality. AA would be the largest beans, and 1 represents the highest quality beans.

Another term used when grading beans is "peaberry". Normal coffee cherries have 2 seeds or beans in each fruit. Some plants produce only a single bean, which is considered higher quality and is usually quite a bit larger than the usual beans. It's not unique to Kenya coffee beans, as peaberry varieties can be found in nearly all coffee-growing regions.

The coffee industry of Kenya is noted for its cooperative system of production, processing, milling, marketing, and auctioning coffee. About 70 percent of Kenya coffee beans are produced by small-scale holders. It is estimated that six million Kenyans are employed directly or indirectly in the coffee industry. The major coffee growing regions in Kenya include the High Plateaus around Mt. Kenya, the Aberdare Range, Kisii, Nyanza, Bungoma, Nakuru and Kericho. The high plateaus of Mount Kenya, plus the acidic soil provide excellent conditions for growing coffee plants. Coffee from Kenya is of the 'mild arabica' type and is well known for its intense flavor, full body, and pleasant aroma.

Kenya coffee beans are available in many outlets. Once you have your coffee beans and youre ready to drink some coffee, use two tablespoons of beans in for each full sized (12 ounce) cup you want. Grind the roasted coffee beans with your choice of grinder, and then make the coffee in your machine. A French Press has been known to bring out a bit richer flavor from the beans. You are now ready to enjoy the bright taste of Kenya coffee beans.
