Drip Coffee Machine
A Drip Coffee Machine is one of the oldest and most popular machines used to brew coffee. They can be cheap to buy and very simple to use. There are two types of drip coffee machines, namely the manual drip coffee machine and the automatic drip coffee machine.
The manual drip coffee machine is perfect for those who are very particular about the strength and taste of their coffee. As all the work is done manually, you can decide how long you want the water to be in contact with the grounds, and how much water you want to mix with the grounds. So you are in complete control of your coffee.
A manual coffee drip machine is made up of two parts, an upper vessel with a permanent filter made from metal, or a temporary filter made from cloth or paper, and a lower vessel where the coffee rests. It is very easy to use a drip machine to make your coffee. Measure freshly ground coffee beans and place them in the upper vessel. Heat the water to the desired temperature and pour it over the coffee grounds in the upper vessel. As the water level decreases, add more water. Coffee drips down through the filter into the lower vessel. The more coffee grounds you add, the stronger the coffee.
The automatic drip coffee machine is a more recent and improved version of the manual drip coffee machine. It works in a similar way to a manual drip coffee machine. Water is added to the water reservoir and some freshly ground coffee is added to the filter. The machine heats the water, and the hot water is mixed with the grounds in the filter. Coffee then drips through the filter in to the lower carafe.
There are many different types of automatic drip coffee machines. They come in different shapes and sizes and carry different features. Some models come with a programmable timer which lets you choose when the machine should brew your coffee. Some automatic drip coffee makers come with a built in coffee bean grinder. Others come with an automatic shut off to prevent water from dripping over into your coffee and weakening its taste. A few models also come with a brew pause feature.
The difference between an automatic and manual drip coffee machine is very simple. While you have to manually heat the water and pour it over the grounds in a manual drip coffee maker, an automatic drip coffee machine heats the water and pours it over the grounds by itself. Also, a manual drip coffee machine does not use electricity making it easily portable.
While drip coffee machines brew very aromatic coffee, it is important to make sure they are well cleaned to maintain the quality of the brew. With time, the filters tend to get clogged will affect the taste of the coffee. Also the oils from the coffee beans can remain in the filters which can also affect the taste of coffee.
Drip coffee makers, both automatic and manual are widely available. Some popular brands making automatic drip coffee machines are Cuisinart, Braun, Bunn etc. while popular brands which make manual drip coffee machines are Bodum, Mellita etc.
