Disposable Coffee Cups

Disposable Coffee Cups come in a variety of sizes, styles, materials, and designs. Each of which are produced by a variety of manufacturers. The majority of disposable coffee cups are made from what is called white paper. The white paper is made from a variety of blends, from 100 percent recycled to 100 percent new paper, and miscellaneous percentage blends in between. The white paper disposable coffee cups can also be made from 100 percent organic non-processed materials.

The second type of disposable coffee cups are less in fashion now than they were in the past. These are the styrofoam disposable coffee cups. While these were great for insulating the temperature of the drink they became less popular as they were determined to be harmful to the environment. The harm was said to come from the fact that the cups were filling landfills and were not biodegradable.

Disposable coffee cups come in a large range of sizes. Decades ago the most popular disposable coffee cups were the 8 and 12 ounce cups. But the popularity of larger cups is on the rise. Anecdotal evidenced shows that the 16 ounce and 20 ounce are now more in demand in North America than the smaller sizes.

The main accessory to the disposable coffee cups of today is the paper sleeve. When styrofoam cups ruled the marketplace, the incredible insulating factors of the styrofoam kept the contents of the cup hot while the outside of the cup remained warm. When, due to environmental concerns, styrofoam cups began to lose market share to white paper disposable coffee cups, the consumer quickly found that hot coffee in a white paper cup could become too hot to hold. As a result, consumers began demanding two cups per coffee. The second cup, placed over the first, diffused some of the heat from the first cup. This doubled the number of cups coffee sellers had to purchase. As a result they developed the paper sleeve.

The sleeve was sold to consumers as a way to shield them from the heat of the coffee while using a lot less paper than a second cup. Once again, saving the environment was the main driving force in the acceptance of the sleeve by consumers. From that point until now, disposable coffee cups made of white paper has become the standard method of delivery for a cup of coffee on the go.
