Therefore the Americans used it as a way to extend their supplies of coffee and to save money.

They of course say that everyone has a personal preference for their chicory coffee, but if you are unsure, try Au Lait first.
The last few years has seen a resurgence of chicory coffee from many other shops other than Cafe Du Monde.
